Jennifer Polins

Jen.aJennifer Polins, MFA in Dance from Hollins/ADF, joined the Joffrey II Dancers at the age of 16. She went on to dance with the Milwaukee Ballet and the Zurich Operhouse Ballet companies before migrating to a contemporary dance career. Jen combines her classical and contemporary concert dance training with somatic and improvisation practices. Based in Northampton, she recently completed a year long training with post modern dance icons Lisa Nelson and Steve Paxton. Her work has been seen across America, Europe and Asia including DTW, Jacob’s Pillow Out of Doors, Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Boston Center for the Arts and at the Ponderosa TanzLand Festival. Jen is a certified instructor of Pilates, Gyrotonic, Gyrokinesis, Iyengar yoga and Essalin Massage. She is co-founder/director of Wire Monkey Dance since 2000 and has been a teacher of dance at Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter High School for the past 13 years, where directs the Catalyst Dancers, Jen collaborates with many international makers, including Lani Nahele, Catherine Musinsky, Cynthia McLaughlin and Saliq Savage, and most recently with Paul Matteson and James Morrow. Jen teaches locally and internationally and is a guest lecturer for the 5 College Dance Department and other local universities. Jen is a Boston native and is happy to be back to teach and will be at Green Street to  perform with PAUL MATTESON & FRIENDS, Oct 25-26, 8 PM.

Contemporary Modern: a release based modern dance class. This highly physical class offers a grounded and direct approach to movement, infused with somatic principles and experiential improvisations.
